Webinar 4: Transcription
This webinar covered the importance of teaching spelling and handwriting effectively to reduce the cognitive load on pupils, and how to ensure they become skilled writers who write fluently and legibly. It offered practical guidance on supporting pupils with the physical aspects of handwriting.
Additionally, the session addressed the complexities of the alphabetic code and shared strategies for developing pupils’ understanding of orthography, morphology, and etymology to enhance accurate spelling.

Webinar 5: Composition
This webinar will be hosted by the Kernow and Cornerstone English Hubs on behalf of the Southwest English Hubs and will explore why teaching sentence construction is essential for developing strong composition skills. It will showcase effective methods for teaching sentence structure and paragraph organisation. In addition, it will emphasise the role of grammar. The session will also present approaches that successfully shift responsibility from teacher-led instruction to pupil independence when teaching composition. Finally, the webinar will examine each stage of the writing process—planning, drafting, revising, editing, and sharing—and highlight the value of each phase.
